Squash Tips for Beginners

Squash can seem like an intimidating sport if you are just getting started. It has its similarities to racquetball but it can also be very different. That's why I'm here. I want to be able to give you a few squash tips on strategy so that you can win more matches right now.

Remember that it's going to take time to get better, and you probably won't be able to be beat a seasoned veteran right away after implementing these strategies but you will defiantly be able to compete a little better.

Squash Tip #1: Control the Court

This is the basic and most important squash tip that I can give you. After you hit your shot you need to try and make it to the middle of the floor so you can get to any part of the court quickly after your opponent hits their shot.

With this being so important then it is obvious that the next tip is to get your opponent out of position. Try making them run to the front of the court and then the next shot sprint to the back of the court. Never let them settle in the middle of the court.

Squash Tip #2: Control the Ball

As I said in squash tip #1 it si very important to try and keep your opponent out of position, but how do you do this?

You can accomplish this by minimizing the options you give your opponent. The most popular way to do this used by proffesional squash players is to hit shots that hug the side walls. If you can get the ball to go straight back and stay right on the wall the whole time your opponent can't really do anything but hit it straight back. They will not have much control of hitting it cross court.

Other than that just be sure to try and hit the ball across court from your opponent. Try to keep them running so they will become fatigued.

Squash Tip #3: Patience

Squash is all about patience. You do not want to attack your opponent and try to score a point every time you hit the ball. Wait for the right time to attack. Hit several shots to set yourself up and get your opponent out of position.

Squash Tip #4: Practice Makes Perfect

Squash is a very hard to sport to master. Make sure to practice on a regular basis if you really want to improve your skills.

Try and practice with people that are better than you too. They will be able to give you a challenge that you have not faced, and they will more than likely be willing to give you some helpful advice as well.
