2 Simple SEO Tips

If you ever plan on doing any affiliate marketing without paying for traffic then you will have to learn a little bit about SEO (search engine optimization). Or maybe you just want to drive traffic to your blog to gain more readers and monetize your site. Either way you need to know some good fundamentals of SEO.
I don't consider myself an SEO expert by any means but I do believe that I am fairly knowledgeable on the subject so I decided that if i didn't know this then there had to be some other people out there that didn't know as well.
The first one is something that you can you start doing right away even if you have an existing blog. The 2nd one here you can't really change if your blog has already been up and running for a while, but it is still good to know for future reference. And obviously if you haven't started a blog yet then you can be sure to implement these two tricks from the beginning.
1. Titles of your blog posts should use the h1 tag, and nothing else on your post should use this tag.
This is important because when search engines crawl your site they look at anything in your <h1> tag to be more important than everything else on your page. So obvioulsy you want your keywords that you want to rank for be included in your title.
It's amazing how simple SEO really is huh? Search engines really do try to think like people.
If that doesn't make sense to you then think about it like this, when you are skimming a post what are you most likely to read? The big bolded letters. Now don't think you can take this another level and start using <h1> tags every time you use your keywords in your post. That's just annoying, and search engines will no doubt catch on to what you are doing and not rank you very well.
2. The format of your permalink
The most important thing you can do when it comes to formatting your permalink structure is to leave the out the date. The reason for this is because when search enginens crawl your url the further they get away from your domain name the less important they deem those words. So the closer your relavant keywords are to your domain then the better off you are going to be.
Here is an example:
xxxx.com/category/post-title
or xxxx.com/post-title
*Note* Take caution in changing this permalink structure if you have an established blog with outside links because you could lose traffic due to the fact that the inbound link will not be pointing to the same place anymore.
These might seem like small things, but when it comes to ranking first for your keyword in search engines every little bit counts.

This is a very very good article! I will bookmark this and start to send it to any new clients that come my way to show the designers exactly what they should and should not be doing. We used these two concepts heavily with http://theeasyapi.com because we knew that without a great search engine presence you aren't going to get very far.
Nice job.
